Fondue F.A.Q.
(Frequently Asked Questions)

Q: What is fondue? What kind of food do you serve?
A: The word fondue literally means “to melt”. Fondue is a Swiss tradition
where bread is dipped into communal pot of melted cheese. At the
Melting Pot, we serve a fondue dinner in four courses: cheese fondue,
salads, entrée and chocolate fondue.

Cheese fondue is prepared tableside by the server and comes with bread,
apples, and vegetables for dipping. We have a wide selection of salads
and each guest can choose their own. Guests cook their own entrée
course at the table while the server  provides cooking instructions. All
entrées are served with a fresh vegetable medley and dipping sauces.

The final course is chocolate fondue. We melt milk, dark, and white
chocolate in our kitchen and serve it with cheesecake, pound cake,
marshmallows, strawberries, bananas, Rice Krispy treats, and brownies
for dipping. Please visit the “Menu” section of our website to view the full
menu.

Q: Do you require reservations?
A: We will attempt to accommodate walk-in parties, but we always HIGHLY
recommend reservations.  Please call (865) 971-5400 after 12pm daily to
make a reservation or visit the “Reservations” section of our website to
make them online.

Q: How long does it take to eat?
A: It usually takes about an hour and forty-five minutes for a party of four to
complete a four-course dinner.  Parties of ten or more can take as long as
three hours.

Q: How much is a standard dinner for two people?
A: Our Big Night Out, which includes all four courses (cheese fondue,
salads, entrées, and chocolate fondue), starts at $65.00 per couple.
Please visit our “Menu” page to view the entire menu with prices.

Q: We normally order combination dinners for two when we go as a couple.
How does it work when we have an odd number of people?

A: We can add on half orders of any combination dinner with the exception
of the Big Night Out Fondue Fusion (we don’t have half lobster tails). The
cost is half the price of a combination dinner for two.

Q: Can I come in for dessert only?
A: Yes. We also take dessert reservations later than full dinner reservations,
so please keep this in mind when making the reservation.  As always, we
recommend reservations or calling ahead even when guests are just
coming in for dessert.

Q: Do you do anything special for birthdays or other special events?
A: We always put a birthday candle in the cheesecake served with the
chocolate fondue. We also offer celebration packages for all special events.
Celebration packages are placed on the table prior to your arrival. Each
package includes a card, a gift in a gift bag, Mylar balloon, and a picture
taken tableside and placed in a souvenir frame.

Celebration packages are $10. For more information on the packages visit
the Reservations section of our website or call (865) 971-5400 to speak
with a hospitality specialist.

Q: What is your dress code?
A: We describe our dress code as “casual but nice”. We do not require a
jacket and tie for men: a polo and khaki pants or shorts are just fine.
Women generally wear everything from an evening dress to a nice pullover
and pants.

Q: How many people will your largest table seat?
A: We have one table in the restaurant that will accommodate up to 16
adults. Parties of seventeen or more require a party agreement and will
need to be seated at separate tables. Please visit our Banquet and Events
page for more information about large parties.

Q: Is your restaurant child-friendly?

A: We can accommodate children of all ages. Most children over seven
years old find the experience fun and exciting. Considerations for children
are hot and sharp objects are on the table at all times and a four-course
dinner for two takes about an hour and forty-five minutes.

Please let us know when making your reservation if you will need a high
chair or booster seat.

Q: Are you handicapped accessible?
A: We will make all attempts to accommodate guests with handicaps. Our
restaurant is located on the lower level of a historic building and there is a
set of stairs to reach the dining room. We do not have a ramp or a back
entrance. Our staff can move a non-electric wheelchair down the stairs and
will be happy to assist in any other way, even if it’s just lending an arm.

Our hospitality specialists will also attempt to seat the party at a table near
the front of the dining room, as there are also steps throughout the dining
room. Please let us know if anyone in your party will need assistance when
you make your reservation.

Q: I have a certificate for a free chocolate from the Fondue Club. How does
that work?

A: The certificate is redeemable for a free small chocolate with the purchase
of one of our combination dinners (The Big Night Out, Signature Selection,
Pacific Rim, or Surf and Turf). Management will subtract the price of the
chocolate from your check. These certificates cannot be used with any other
promotional offer.
